History of Red Rose Ju-Jitsu
The Founder of the Red Rose Ju-Jitsu is Sensei Andy Manwaring 7th Dan, who started training under Sensei Paul Jackson in the early 80’s, with Sensei Dave Hand 7th Dan, Chief Instructor of Bushi Kempo Ju-Jitsu, in 1992 and has been a personal student of Prof. Bill Rankin 10th Dan Ju-Jitsu, Founder of Lan-Kin-Fa Ju-Jitsu, for nearly ten years. Sensei Manwaring was a Physical Training Instructor for the Territorial Army, serving 12 years and also qualified as a Coach with the Governing Body for Ju-Jitsu the BJJAGB.
The Lancaster club was started in January 1993, originally as the Lancashire Bushido Kempo Ju-Jitsu, at the Kingsway Sports Centre, then in 1995 move to the Red Rose Martial Arts Centre, on invitation of the Red Rose Karate Club and moved to our current premises in December 1999.
The name of the Organisation/style was changed in January 2005, due to the style evolving from the development by Sensei Manwaring and the inclusion of techniques/Guidance from Prof. Rankin.
Sensei Manwaring has also taken over as the Headmaster of  Lan-Kin-Fa Ju-Jitsu, since Prof. Rankin’s retirement.

BUSHIDO
A moral code of ancient Japan, “Do” The Way, developed to set a high standard in the training of the Bushi (Warrior), more commonly known as the Samurai.
The code is :
1. Integrity.      2. Honour.
3. Loyalty.       4. Trustworthy.

The Seven Principles are:
1. Heroic Courage. 2. Sincerity
3. Honour Dignity 4. Compassion
5. Honesty Justice 6. Polite Courtesy
7. Duty Loyalty

KEMPO KARATE
This comes from Shorinji Kempo, a Japanese art often described as a mixture of Karate and Aikido, its roots go back to the Kung Fu of the Shaolin temples in northern China, we can see this in the name, as the Chinese for Shorinji is Shaolin -Su and for Kempo is Chaun-Fa meaning way of the fist. The techniques of Kempo are based on high speed blocks and counter-attacks, also the use of pressure to vital points of the body to cause damage or inflict pain.

JU-JITSU
Ju-Jitsu means the art of gaining victory by yielding or pliancy, also spelt: Jiu-Jitsu and Ju-Jutsu.
In its fullest form this was an art of the Samurai warriors, this gives us a martial art with probably the largest repertoire of techniques, some over a thousand years old, to name a few:-
Attacking pressure points, vulnerable areas and joints with kicks or strikes, grappling and locking of joints, breaking bones and dislocation of joints, any of these could be used with a take-down or throw.
Ju-Jitsu can be deadly but we teach to use minimum force necessary.

Many other arts have sprung from Ju-Jitsu: Judo, Aikido and Wado Ryu Karate, to name a few, as these were all created by Ju-Jitsu Master, who took only some of the elements to make their own arts.

Many new systems are “Do’s”, which means “the way”, as above Karatedo Aikido, Kendo and Judo, as they are modern systems that only follow the former way of training, not strictly a fighting system, many are now more sport than combat.
